ART
Art With A Purpose
HERE I AM. Melinda Guerrero. This is a porthole into my little head and the grand roller coaster ride that takes place in this mind of mine. I cannot control what transpires from the moment a thought trickles from my head, hopscotches down my arm, dances through my hand, and spills pen & ink onto paper in a form I cannot decipher until “it” tells me it is finished. I would not call myself an artist, only because labels create boundaries. Instead I am a person who makes doodles of sorts. I have been doodling since I was a wee little one and now I am doodling as a wee big one.
THE THEN: I studied Film Production Design in college and acquired the skills to design, draft, and construct film sets. Yet no matter how much fun it was to use technology like 3D computer software to accomplish my designs, I still loved the old fashioned method of hand drafting from scratch. Paper & pencil… simple. That is all I needed. There is nothing like feeling the grit of pencil lead travel across the texture of a piece of paper with your fingers getting chalky and your hand guiding the eyes where it wants to go… And then the Pen found me. I think there is such beauty in not having the ability to erase. Pen & ink is like a word problem. Once it is down on the paper, it is not going anywhere so you just have to figure it out and deal with it. It’s something so permanent, yet so delicate because of its ability to change under my creativity. A doodle never comes out what I originally started out with. I love trying to riddle out an unplanned smudge. In fact, the mistakes are the things that make it better! Having grown up by the beach in Southern California, a lot of my inspiration has come from the ocean and nature, and the way they motivate everything around us. Mother Nature is a priceless thing. It’s the reason why I believe sunrises & sunsets are a blessing. These are privileges we get to have every day.
THE NOW: I am now creating Art With A Purpose. Being an environmental activist and volunteer for organizations such as the Surfrider Foundation and a company called The Look Out. I have found my niche. I want to use my talent to give back. Even though my work consists of nautical and abstract themes, I would like to help benefit organizations, charities, and non-profits of any nature. If I believe in the cause, I would love to contribute my talents in order to raise funds and awareness. There continues to be so many people and experiences that inspire me. So I hope to return the favor to all those wonderful beings. So feel free to roam around my page and explore the details of what goes on in my head. Enjoy.
TRAVEL
“Mi patría es el Mundo. Mi techo es el Cielo. Mi cama es la Tierra. ” — El Mochilero.
Translation: My country is the World. My ceiling is the Sky. My bed is the Earth. — The Backpacker
This was a quote written on the wall of a hostel I had the privilege to stumble upon by accident in South America. The reason I love this saying is because I think it is a beautiful representation of how I perceive travel and the love I have for all the wild places there are on this planet. The world is home for me, no matter where I am. Here you will find a collection of my travels, my adventures, my advice tips, and my mistakes. If you learn something useful, then I am happy to share my experiences to help you with yours. So travel often, my friends!
SUSTAINABILITY
Live Simply, Healthy And Earth Minded
My goal is to motivate a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. I truly believe simple living and minimalism is the key to less stress and reducing complexities from our lives. By highlighting eco-friendly products and companies that are conscious of the environment, I hope to bring awareness about the quality of the things we purchase as consumers. Consider this thought: whatever we do to the earth, we do to ourselves. Also, check out do-it-yourself projects, fun & easy recipes, creative events & programs, and money saving habits.
MEMORIES
Memories On Melinda Mondays
Mondays traditionally mark the beginning of the week and are often labeled as the “Monday Blues”. I tend to see Mondays as a day for reflections and thoughts. Some of the things you will find here are journal entries, poetry writings, contemplations, travel stories, flashbacks on adventures, and inspirational quotes that I find worth sharing. This page is about my personal life lessons, memoirs, and self-evaluations.
